But a black and white pest with a stripe on the rear.

Thankfully, I saw him before letting the little dogs out.

Ah, how cute. Pepe Le Pew, in the flesh!

Hah! Not so cute if my Papillons cornered him though!

Oooh. That could have been bad.

  3. Michelle Says:

How cute! Did he manage to get anything before he made his great escape?

He was attracted by the bird feeders–but they were empty because I have had a grackle invasion and I have been discouraging them. I suspect, however, that the skunks are among the creatures that sample the veggies in my garden.

Good thing you saw it before letting the dogs out. That would have been terrible! Skunks swarmed our campsite once, I was terrified to move a muscle.

  5. Rick Says:

Ah, dog and skunk. Not a good combo at all! Usually one shot takes care of any dog attack, but not with my male Dalmatian. Oh no, he had to keep at it, till I think the skunk ran out of scent and just ran! I am yelling at the dog, dog is barking at the skunk, the skunk is shooting anything in sight! Took a week to get that smell of him.

Yikes Robin! Have you ever seen a skunk in your yard before? I guess they do like cleaning up under the bird feeders…..

Thankfully indeed! We had one in our garage a few years back. It was during a garage sale of all things. It never did spray but didn’t need to cause the fear alone drove everyone out. Loved your clever title to the post.

Just dropped in to see your pretty pictures and had to laugh at this post. Glad your dogs didn’t get out first! Have a wonderful holiday weekend, blessings, Kathleen

Skunks are cute, but not up close & personal & not with dogs. My dogs never got sprayed, but one of them was stupid enough to roll in skunk spray. Oh, the stench!

  10. Layanee Says:

I went to a trade show once and there was a man there with a skunk on his arm. Curious, very curious! Glad your pups avoided the spray.

Ooooooh yes, very lucky! My old dog once got sprayed around midnight so there was no place to buy tomato juice LOL

Wow… lucky you! I’m sure that the paps would have had much better luck catching him than they do the deer. :)

Quite right you are. We always look outside before allowing our beasties outside the door.

Robin, could you smell him? Was it a skunk or a badger? Do you even have badgers? I once confused the two and Fish and Game told me to run like hell if I came across a badger. YIKES!

Another Monday.

Harry and I spent the better part of the weekend painting the master bedroom. We traded off between rolling and detail work and we both made our fair share of messes. For a while Sophie perched on top of a chaise to supervise our work. Sarah was distraught. She does not like change.

Today we get back to normal. I will have to do something about my manicure. Speckled fingernails in Benjamin Moore Light Pewter is not really a good look.

Here’s wishing you a happy, calm and productive week.

If you’re in the neighborhood and just happen to have your paintbrush and paint clothes with you, stop on by. Harry and I are taking the day off from work to start painting the master bedroom. We figure it’ll take until Sunday. Harry does most of the rolling—no small chore with high ceilings—and I do all the tedious detail work. You, of course, can pitch in wherever you like.

We’re painting it a dove grey. So if you see some grey in my hair in the next few days, it’s paint. Got it? The grey is paint.

Happy Groundhog Day! What are you doing to celebrate?

We’ll have a special dinner of NOT groundhog. Dinner will be a special pasta (TBD) and some yummy homemade yeast rolls. Then we’ll pull out the photo album of past Groundhog Days and reminisce. We will toast Puxatawny Phil by opening the first bottle of my homemade apfelwein, which I hope is sparkly by now. If it’s any good, you’ll hear more about it.

Cheers!

Working from a home office is not always what it’s cracked up to be. I have a lousy IT department (me). Interruptions range from barking dogs to crowing roosters. I hear my business phone ring during non-business hours.

But there is a lot good about a 15 step commute. Such as today. It’s cloudy and a bit drizzly, but the temps will climb into the mid 60s for the second day in a row. I will turn off the heat, throw open the windows and give the house—and office—a good airing. Ahhh!
