Thank you to my new friend Mary Bowen at Prosperity Acres for the nice shout-out and plug forĀ Grocery Gardening. Mary and her family raise beef and goats for meat here in Calvert County. If you eat meat, local sources that pasture raise the animals humanely and without antibiotics or growth hormones is a better alternative to the industrial, feedlots and inhumane slaughtering practices used to produce almost all of the meat you find in the grocery stores.
If you’re a local and interested in sustainable agriculture, join Calvert Eats Local for the viewing of the movie King Corn at 7 p.m. on Monday, November 15, at the Prince Frederick Library. It’s the story of corn in modern America, woven with the tale of two friends who decide to raise corn.
It’s a gorgeous day here in my neck of the woods. The sun is shining. The chickens are clucking. Somewhere I’m sure the fish are jumpin’. A friend sent me a recipe for an Indian dish with cabbage and dal served with warm yogurt that I think I’ll make for dinner. Tomorrow I must start the serious business of planning the Thanksgiving feast.
Happy weekend!
