Dear Carol,

I know that you host a monthly Bloom Day event there at May Dreams Gardens, where gardeners share their monthly in-bloom reports.  I usually don’t participate because of 1) inattention, 2) lack of blooms 3) fear of competition 4) nothing particularly interesting to say and 5) general busy-ness.

But after suffering through nearly 30 inches of snow here in Southern Maryland, I am most impressed with this bloom. Therefore, I will break with my years-long tradition and participate in Bloom Day.

pansy

Whoever started using “pansy” as a word to insult someone has never grown these wonderful little flowers. They are hearty, hopeful and a joy to see under two feet of snow. I have to say, “Hello, pansy!”

Robin

This post is precisely WHY you should participate. This is the VERY reason and inspiration that keeps us ALL going at times like this.
Besides, you’re so darned witty, you just keep me laughing.
    Thanks for playing!

I’m willing to bet that this will be the best bloom I see on GBBD.

I’m wondering the same thing about how the word pansy evolved to be an insult.

Bless your little bloom’s flower heart.

There’s always a blossom, somewhere. Pansies in the garden are tough little characters. Last bloom day violas were the only blossoms I had outside.

Love your tulips inside, too. I’ve resolved to try again next year for tulips in pots. The puppy ate mine last year. Maybe she’ll be grown-up enough by next winter to restrain herself.

    Dear Robin,

That is the sweetest little pansy I’ve seen. It is the little pansy that could, that won’t give up. It is obviously capable of amazing things, not just blooming in the snow, but getting you to finally post for bloom day!!

Gardening is an art. It requires patience and time. Beyond plant gardening, people can start using herb gardens. Try it at herbs from your herb garden and

That certainly provides a whole new meaning to the phrase “under the weather.” Haha. I definitely got excited when blooms started popping up. It was a long and hard winter…

Pansy’s should never be used for anything more than to describe such lovely precious flowers. They look totally handsome and secretive in this photo.

Right Now at Bumblebee

Another Monday.

Harry and I spent the better part of the weekend painting the master bedroom. We traded off between rolling and detail work and we both made our fair share of messes. For a while Sophie perched on top of a chaise to supervise our work. Sarah was distraught. She does not like change.

Today we get back to normal. I will have to do something about my manicure. Speckled fingernails in Benjamin Moore Light Pewter is not really a good look.

Here’s wishing you a happy, calm and productive week.

If you’re in the neighborhood and just happen to have your paintbrush and paint clothes with you, stop on by. Harry and I are taking the day off from work to start painting the master bedroom. We figure it’ll take until Sunday. Harry does most of the rolling—no small chore with high ceilings—and I do all the tedious detail work. You, of course, can pitch in wherever you like.

We’re painting it a dove grey. So if you see some grey in my hair in the next few days, it’s paint. Got it? The grey is paint.

Happy Groundhog Day! What are you doing to celebrate?

We’ll have a special dinner of NOT groundhog. Dinner will be a special pasta (TBD) and some yummy homemade yeast rolls. Then we’ll pull out the photo album of past Groundhog Days and reminisce. We will toast Puxatawny Phil by opening the first bottle of my homemade apfelwein, which I hope is sparkly by now. If it’s any good, you’ll hear more about it.

Cheers!

Working from a home office is not always what it’s cracked up to be. I have a lousy IT department (me). Interruptions range from barking dogs to crowing roosters. I hear my business phone ring during non-business hours.

But there is a lot good about a 15 step commute. Such as today. It’s cloudy and a bit drizzly, but the temps will climb into the mid 60s for the second day in a row. I will turn off the heat, throw open the windows and give the house—and office—a good airing. Ahhh!
